August 10, 2001, Newsletter Issue #32: Some thoughts on weaning

Tip of the Week

Breastfeeding is about much more than nutrition for both mothers and babies. It is a time and a place to slow down and refuel. To take a break from the stresses of both day and night.
The most important thing to remember when you wean your child, is to take it slowly and respect that, perhaps, your child is not quite ready to give up this time in their life.
Most women find that it works best to start by cutting out one feed. When their child has adjusted to this stage then they cut out another, and so on. Night feeds are usually the last to go.
